-double click background layer and unlock the background layer to convert it to normal layer
-selecting layers first can avoid deleting other stuff from other layer


Conversion from RGB to bitmap
-convert RGB images to grayscale first to convert the image to bitmap

To add additional pixels to your canvas
Image > canvas size
press the relative check bar to increase the pixels on how much you want . it will spread the amount you put in to both up and down direction if you key in your amount on the height .
Use anchor to avoid that .
Before you increase the canvas size, change it to normal layer

Eyedropper
-allows you to sample a color of a pixel

Crop tool
-resize / cut the images
